Poem analysis assignment-0527

“ I wish I could take a quiet corner in the heart of my baby’s very own world.” The poem " Baby's World" by Rabindranath Tagore describes the look of a baby's imaginary world in which represents the writer's hope contrasted with the ugly facts of life. Sometime, real world is too hard to face so people hope to go back to their child life, when there were no bound, no press, and no lies.

From the title of this poem, it is not hard to know this poem is a very soft and peaceful poem that describes world only exists in people’s imaginations. On the other hand it also shows writer’s expectation of real world. Tagore is a writer I know from my primary school textbook but this is my first time to really recite his poem. It is different form normally poems which has a special structure with only one stanza.

The poem Baby’s World describes things happens in a baby's world. Tagore wants to travel to baby’s world where there are toys, stars, and stories... The baby lives a happy life and has his own house with people who have stories and toys come to visit him. Sky and stars are friends with him, clouds and rainbows play with him. He never needs to worry about friendship since stars are always friends with him. In this cute, small baby’s world, not only baby lives a happy life but also people who live in this world as enjoy their life. Every one is equal, all have the right for freedom, the facts, laws, and speaks are free. This kind of world can never be exist in real but can only be hide in baby’s adorable head. “ Where messengers ran errands for no cause”, Pressure of working is little, people work form their personal willingness. Citizens can say what ever they want and no more bounds can limit their lives. Facts were supported by Truth, laws were decided by the baby, things all follow his mind. It is obviously to see that Tagore really wants to live in this kind of Utopian world where there are no trouble and full of happiness. Just like what he said, he wants to “Out beyond all bounds… Truth sets Fact free from its fetters”

In the first sentence of Baby’s World, the writer says he wants to go to " the heart of my baby's very own world" which shows how deeply the idea of living in an equal and adorable world is in his mind. In the middle of Baby’s World, Tagore says he wants to “travel by the road that cross baby’s mind” which shows that every street in baby’s world is his favorite, every ground was desired by him. The writer uses baby as a significant figure of innocent, clear, and cute. Baby is a start form of us when we haven’t experienced so many complex things and so many hart broken events. A baby has no annoyance and has a placid heart. So in a baby's world, there is no need to think too much, things go as what he wants, no need to care about lies and facts because " truth sets fact free from its fetters". For the writer, maybe he has some troubles that doesn't happened as what he wants, or people lie, or him self have too many worries... The troubles he meets in real life makes him write a poem like this. “And out beyond all bounds”, shows that he has experienced the tastes of bounding. By using the words “stars”, “rainbows”, “toys”, and “stories”, it is easy to make readers constitute an image of a bright world with soft clouds, shining stars, and soft colors houses. In the poem, the writer uses" I wish I could" twice at the start and the middle. It separates the poem in to two parts. The first was used to describe people's action in baby's world. The other is used to describe those Laws, Truth, and Facts. He also used many similar sounds like ” stoops”, “ would”, ” could”, ” look” in his poem which sounds connected fluently. It still counts as a free verse poem even though there are repeated sounds. In the last two sentences, even though they both uses " where" to start the sentences but the second sentence is longer and has a comma in the middle that shows the specialty of this sentence.

Reading this poem makes me remember my childhood. When we are growing up, we needs to watch our speech, stand on other’s side, be less emotional. Time can never go back when all my friends were young child. I try to ignore those ugly facts and cheat my self that life is not that bad. We used to say what we want to, we used to break off with friends and recover on the next day. More and more pressures were putted on our back in which makes me want to escape to Baby’s World.

Response

For Leo’s blog post, he starts the essay with a paragraph of his own thinking. The first part gave me the deepest impression. Sometimes things that are hard to understand are more attractive. He introduces the reason why he chooses this poem and what was his thought when he first read his poem. He gives really specific details and trust worthy reasons which is good because I didn’t mention any of my own opinion in my essay. He also use questions to ask him self which is not an ordinary thing to use in and essay. Talking about one’s own opinion about his choice is a good starting which is an object lesson that others can use. For his second paragraph, he tells his understanding about the title of the poemwhich is “the solemn hour”. He also tells his feeling about the way that writer use repeat sentence. His hook is pretty attractive to be honest because I didn’t understand what exactly he wants to say when I read this sentence so it attracts me to read more about his essay.

However Leo’s essay was not very well organized. Each paragraph should have its own work. For example, the first paragraph is about introducing his feeling which he made it. The second paragraph should be about telling readers what the poem is about. When I was reading his essay, I sometimes don’t understand what he was talking about if I never read his poem. As a reader also an audience who has listened his recitation, it is not really hard to understand Leo’s strong emotional feeling about this poem. However, if I were a reader who had never listened about his poem before, I need a more clearly meaning part. Before he tells his own feeling I want to know what the poem is about first so that I can make sure if I have the same feeling as well. So maybe he can exchange the place of his second and third paragraph. Also in the 3rd paragraph, even though gives very specific sentence and uses quotes, he just says the sentences give him huge impacts but not specifically what kind of feeling, what does the sentence makes him think about. Also, readers of Leo’s essay needs to know more about the meaning of the poem but not only reading the original sentences by quotes. So far Leo has a good analyzing but doesn’t have a good conclusion. He ends up the essay with analyzing the poem, which is a point that he needs to work harder on. For the part of analyzing, it is good but not enough. He analysed the basic meaning but not about the metaphors, similes, personification… Though I really like Leo’s first paragraph, it still have something needs to improve. The first paragraph is a good paragraph but a little bit too long to be a starting. Maybe he can shorter it or use it in as a second paragraph.

Theater Review

I have to say this is the best comedy in English ever also the only comedy I’ve watched. The comedy doesn’t start with their first show but with two people introduce the whole comedy, one introduces the whole thing and speaks a lot, the other reply. It is kind of similar with a Chinese traditional comedy called Cross Talk is also played by only 2 people.

To be honest, every time I finished watch musical, comedy, drama, I feel awful. Not because of the play because they are all awesome but because my English is too bad. There are too many jokes that I can’t understand, some because of unfamiliar words, some because of culture. As a international student, I was taught by different culture, I don’t really know who Trump’s daughter is, or how crazy a Christian could be, I don’t even know the joke “Knock, knock. Whose there?” until I come to America. This comedy once again makes me feel my distance with American culture further. This is not the comedy’s fault obviously. But it really makes me realize I have to learn English hardly to join this place where I am going to live for 10 more years. I don’t want to be a normal international student who looks dumb and pretend to understand jokes. I don’t want to look so stupid and I don’t want other people know I don’t understand what they said so I could only pretend laughing when those Americans are laughing. But this makes me feel so embarrass and looks even more like a mutt.

Back to the comedy, it is awesome, especially the Morning Meeting. Every one who sits there or stands on the stage really looks like teacher. For Zola, her dog, her pink Crocs, Her red hair, her yellow scarf is really Ms.Minahan’s style. I recognize her plays Ms. Minahan immediately! Also John’s role who is Mr. Dykeman is good. The iconic gray CA shirt and the DD coffee is what we see him wearing almost every morning meet. Also the pose he stands beside the lectern is so alike. I can see every one in this comedy works really hard. They did not only wear teachers’ cloth but also shows audiences teachers’ accents, emotions, movements, and also words they usually say. I believe morning meeting is what students in CA remember the most clearly after they graduate.

The poem I choose is Baby's World by Rabindranath Tagore. From the title of this poem, it is not hard to know this poem is a very soft and peaceful poem that describes world only exists in people’s imaginations. On the other hand it also shows writer’s expectation of real world. Tagore is a writer I know from my primary school textbook but this is my first time to really recite his poem. The poem Baby’s World describes things happens in a baby's world. The writer wants to travel to baby’s world where there are toys, stars, stories... The baby has his own house and people come to him with stories and toys, and he lives a happy life. Sky and stars are friends with him, clouds and rainbows play with him. He never needs to worry friends leave him because stars are always with him. Also not only baby him self lives a happy life but also people who live in this world. They are all equal, have the right for freedom, The facts, laws, and speaks are free. “ Where messengers ran errands for no cause”, describes the pressure of working and in his imagine world, people work form their personal willingness. People can say what ever they want and no one lies. Facts are supported by Truth, laws in his world were decoded by the baby. Things follow his mind. It is obviously to see that the writer really wants to live in this kind of Utopian world where there are no trouble and full of happiness.

In the first sentence of Baby’s World, the writer says he wants to go to " the heart of my baby's very own world" which shows how deeply the idea of living in an equal and adorable world is in his mind. Reading this poem makes me remember my childhood when I had to trouble, and no pressure. The reason why I choose this poem is that I have the same hope as the writer does, so does everyone, no one doesn’t want to live in a Utopian world.
