Poem analysis assignment-0527

“ I wish I could take a quiet corner in the heart of my baby’s very own world.” The poem " Baby's World" by Rabindranath Tagore describes the look of a baby's imaginary world in which represents the writer's hope contrasted with the ugly facts of life. Sometime, real world is too hard to face so people hope to go back to their child life, when there were no bound, no press, and no lies.

From the title of this poem, it is not hard to know this poem is a very soft and peaceful poem that describes world only exists in people’s imaginations. On the other hand it also shows writer’s expectation of real world. Tagore is a writer I know from my primary school textbook but this is my first time to really recite his poem. It is different form normally poems which has a special structure with only one stanza.

The poem Baby’s World describes things happens in a baby's world. Tagore wants to travel to baby’s world where there are toys, stars, and stories... The baby lives a happy life and has his own house with people who have stories and toys come to visit him. Sky and stars are friends with him, clouds and rainbows play with him. He never needs to worry about friendship since stars are always friends with him. In this cute, small baby’s world, not only baby lives a happy life but also people who live in this world as enjoy their life. Every one is equal, all have the right for freedom, the facts, laws, and speaks are free. This kind of world can never be exist in real but can only be hide in baby’s adorable head. “ Where messengers ran errands for no cause”, Pressure of working is little, people work form their personal willingness. Citizens can say what ever they want and no more bounds can limit their lives. Facts were supported by Truth, laws were decided by the baby, things all follow his mind. It is obviously to see that Tagore really wants to live in this kind of Utopian world where there are no trouble and full of happiness. Just like what he said, he wants to “Out beyond all bounds… Truth sets Fact free from its fetters”

In the first sentence of Baby’s World, the writer says he wants to go to " the heart of my baby's very own world" which shows how deeply the idea of living in an equal and adorable world is in his mind. In the middle of Baby’s World, Tagore says he wants to “travel by the road that cross baby’s mind” which shows that every street in baby’s world is his favorite, every ground was desired by him. The writer uses baby as a significant figure of innocent, clear, and cute. Baby is a start form of us when we haven’t experienced so many complex things and so many hart broken events. A baby has no annoyance and has a placid heart. So in a baby's world, there is no need to think too much, things go as what he wants, no need to care about lies and facts because " truth sets fact free from its fetters". For the writer, maybe he has some troubles that doesn't happened as what he wants, or people lie, or him self have too many worries... The troubles he meets in real life makes him write a poem like this. “And out beyond all bounds”, shows that he has experienced the tastes of bounding. By using the words “stars”, “rainbows”, “toys”, and “stories”, it is easy to make readers constitute an image of a bright world with soft clouds, shining stars, and soft colors houses. In the poem, the writer uses" I wish I could" twice at the start and the middle. It separates the poem in to two parts. The first was used to describe people's action in baby's world. The other is used to describe those Laws, Truth, and Facts. He also used many similar sounds like ” stoops”, “ would”, ” could”, ” look” in his poem which sounds connected fluently. It still counts as a free verse poem even though there are repeated sounds. In the last two sentences, even though they both uses " where" to start the sentences but the second sentence is longer and has a comma in the middle that shows the specialty of this sentence.

Reading this poem makes me remember my childhood. When we are growing up, we needs to watch our speech, stand on other’s side, be less emotional. Time can never go back when all my friends were young child. I try to ignore those ugly facts and cheat my self that life is not that bad. We used to say what we want to, we used to break off with friends and recover on the next day. More and more pressures were putted on our back in which makes me want to escape to Baby’s World.
